Weber Carb Questions

Hello everyone

I have a A reg MK1 1.5,  everything is original apart from the Carb and the the manifold.

I have a number of questions I would love to have answered before I tear my hair out.

-  How do I tell which weber carb is on my car ( It has a weber logo and a metal tag which says weber 12347 252 4)

- There is a (brass ?) pipe connector that comes out of the rhs of the manifold and goes no where. I'm sure there should be a pipe on it but I haven't got a clue where the other end should go.

I guess that once I find out the model of the carb I should be able to get a manual and be able to tune it so I don't stutter down the road like a fool.

Thanks in advance

Tim

I've never owned a 1.5 carb car, but I wonder if the connector is for the servo vacuum connection, in which case:

Your car will run really badly, because the naked connector will be sucking in loads of unmetered air.

The brakes will be really dire, because the servo will not be doing anything.

Check if the servo has a pipe coming from it to the inlet manifold - if it does, then ignore the above, but on the other hand, put your finger over the end of the connector when the engine is running - if there is suction, you need to block it off, either way.

Regarding the model of carb, it is usually cast into the body of the carb - the metal tag is more likely to be a batch number, detailing the exact jets used and how it was set up to make it right for, say a Golf JB 1.5 engine, rather than just any 1.5 engine.
