Warm up regulator???

Hi there, just a quick question to see if anyone can help me.
My car - Mk1 GTI Cabby on a C plate - is a nightmare to start from cold. It takes 2 or 3 turns at least and that's on a hot day. Basically there's no choke at (the choke is supposed to be automatic.) Someone told me it might be the warm up regulator. What I wanted to find out was how easy it would be for me to change the warm up regulator myself - I'm not that mechanically minded but am willing to give these things a go - and where it is located. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Robin

Very easy its mounted on the front of your engine with 2 fuel lines going to it and just a couple of Allen bolts, shouldn't take longer than 30 mins.

Make sure you get new copper crush washers for the fuel lines else you will have fuel leaks...

check the leads going to said regualtor, if they are bare or worn you wont need to replace it - bit of insulation tape will do the trick

Hang on there….

First thing I'd be doing is checking the operation of the Cold Start Valve - the one on the end of the inlet manifold.

It is supposed to fire fuel for 8 secs when the engine is cold.

The warm up regulator richens the mix after that until the engine is fully warmed up.  soooooo if it is a problem on the initial crank I'd look at the CSV.

No - well, not easily. If the WUR works properly, you should be able to set the mixture so that performance during warm up and also once fully warm, is acceptable.
