unknown engine part???

Could someone please tell me what this part is and what it does.

Have just noticed that the pipes had been swapped over. Any ideas what symptoms this would produce?

i beleive its some kind of increased idle valve, doubt swapping the hoses over would make a difference?

1. If you take out the fuel distributor, should the control plunger always spring back out to be fully extended beyond the body, or does it depend on the pressure of the fuel inside it when running?

2. What does the diaphragm pressure switch do?

the pin has a spring behind it, plus if there is fuel pressure in the mhead it will be pushed out. the pin can also fall out with gravity alone

If  you mean the metal thing behind airbox with a vac line and a 2 pin plug, thats the cold throttle enrichment valve. it gets 12v from the throttle switch when throttle open, and sends 12v to the 5th inj when a hard throttle condition is detected. the 5th inj earths via the thermoswitch, so this will only happen when the engine is cold.

guessing it has aircon going by the big pump?? either that or power steering?

If it's aircon then yeah it's to increase the idle when you turn the aircon on to take up the load the pump puts on the engine.
