Throttle cable problem

Post

Good afternoon folks. I am having some trouble with my throttle cable and I am hoping someone can help me out.

Yesterday while I was driving I lost my throttle completely and traced this to a perished bush at the top of the throttle pedal that the cable secures in to. I purchased a new bush (mk2 part) from my local dealer and got that fitted this afternoon however I cannot get the throttle cable refitted as the little plastic bracket that held the cable in place is broken.

Is there a way around this using a different cable or will i need to buy a replacement throttle body?

Thanks in advance

After having a think about this I wondered if the the broken part, the throttle cable attachment linkage, would be easy to swap over so I tried a quick google search and found this thread…..

Audi 5000 TB Conversion

According to step 3 the throttle cable attachment linkages are transferrable so now I just need to source myself an original throttle body. Happy days!

Sorry for the late reply on this, I have been busy changing jobs and not had a minute to look at the Golf.

I have taken pictures to show the broken bracket on the Audi 2.2 throttle body. From the pictures below you will be able to see where the cable used to slot into.

I have edited this picture to show how the bracket used to look before it gave up.

I purchased a second hand original Mk1 throttle body and was going to try and swap the cable linkage over as per the link I had found, however the cable end does not fit securely onto the ball type fixing, it just keeps on falling off.

Tomorrow I am going to try and source a throttle cable that will fit onto the ball type fixing securely and hopefully I will be able to continue using my Audi throttle body.

After having a quick search online it would appear that my throttle body linkage is different to others that I have found.

Here are 2 pictures of mine.

looks liek your old one is from another car such as audi? either that or its later mk1 such as cabrio I guess.

the 2 pics you found are std mk1 golf.

might be a good excuse to upgrade to mk2 golf throttle body, use a mk2 throttle cable to match ;)

need to mod the inlet a bit as its bigger. the mk2 tb is the same size as the audi tb that everyone mentions when upgrading but easier to find!

I was told when I bought my TB that it was from an Audi 2.2. When you offer it up against a standard Mk1 GTi it is definately bigger in diameter and I remember having to grind out part of my inlet before fitting to get the benefit of the larger diameter butterfly.

The last 2 pics that I posted are both Audi throttle bodies…. well according to the listing on ebay and advert on here anyway.

I just find it strange that the cable linkage is so different on mine compared to these two.

I think im going to have to look into fitting a MK2 TB and cable as you have mentioned rubjonny…. cheers for your help.
