tank and filler neck not lined up

hi,

ive bought a new fuel filler neck from crazy quiffs and tried to fit it, but the pipe coming off the fuel tank is a lot further towards the passenger side than where the filler neck comes down.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with that filler neck or possible a way of identifying a mk1 golf tank??

im planning on taking the beam and tank off so it might just be positioned in the wrong place but I cant seem to be able to move it??

any help would be good
