supersprint middle section

where can i get 1 from?

I've just bought a group a supersprint backbox, will this fit onto my mongoose system?

Also is it illegel to run just 1 silencer?

I plan on having a straight through system with just the rear box at the back…

The law is more interested in the noise you make. Certain competition rules exist, but if you don't compete, then that's not an issue.

so do you think having just 1 box would be too loud then?

I started with MK1 and 2 Escorts and the difference between single and twin box is obvious from quite a distance. The 1st box also affects the power. Have a search for articles by David Vizard on the web about this. If it's designed correctly then it should be quiet either way, but this is rarely the case.

The Supersprint group A system can be bought as a single rear box with straight through middle section or with a centre silencer. The straight through version is "probbably going to be too loud for road use" (Quoting a guy at supersrint when I called about the system!).

MOT testers don't usually test for noise unless they think it is excessive. You will only really have a problem if the rozzers take a dislike to it and pull you over. Will only give you a producer to get it fixed though…

As for fitting you mongoose system, the joints might not be in exactly the right place, though you should get it on. If the diameter is not the same you could use a step tube. Be aware though that the Grp A system is mild steel and you Mongoose is probably stainless. They don't joint very well and may start to blow a bit every now and then.

i sourced a place that sells the middle supersprint section. Its ?33 all together inc vat which isnt as bad i had thought.

Im not sure if im going to like the sound of no center silencer though!?? i'll most likely be selling the mongoose at some point though so i dont have to butcher it to get the supersprint on…

Should i get the straight through pipe or should i buy a std gti system with the middle box in?

please help!!!! :banghead:

whatever you get mate make sure it all flushes up, dont worry about only have rear silencer with baffles in a healthy engine will get you through test (you can always thin it down a bit for test like  ), but them two exhausts you mention are different diameter and would require reducer pipe?!?!?! you would be better with straight through pipe and good back box like, probably made it more complicated sorry. MOT testers aint daft if they see cars a good un' they will overlook exhaust, wheels etc unless its blatant.  if you are in major doubt mate get your hands on a standard system you can always keep it for back up and they aint expensive, i got a few here doing nowt if you get stuck 8O

I have a group A system on my mk1 with the centre silencer. The bore is kin huge ! Not sure it will match the Mongoose. I reckon it will be too small.  Also the noise level will be well above 98db with a straight thru pipe, which is the legal limit for road use. Having said that you may get away with it !

Incidently the system was noise tested at a track day at Castle Coombe this year at 94db

nick, i've been to the exhaust, garage, he said he would be able to adapt it, …no way he said the bore size is massive and theres no way you can adapt it to fit…

Anyway i've orderd the middle section from halfords, and it should be here tuesday, will it be the same size as the bore on the exhaust backbox?

update:

i've got the exhaust on, with a straight through pipe and it sounds sweet!! Everybody thought it would be to harsh/chav-ish and unbearable… well even though its only got the rear box it sounds very quite, just what i wanted, at idle it has a tone and sounds 'sporty' when you boot it! not nova/corsa-ish AT ALL! Get rid of those middle box's lads!    you can even tell a differance in performance
