starting problems with show winning golf
h there, i am having a problem getting my reconditioned mk1 gti dx engine going, this is the first time it will have been running since reconditioning. i have checked the ignition in the plugs and getting good spark, but nothing is firing. i have now moved on to the fueling, it is getting fuel up to the fuel distributor but getting confused at what should be doing what, i have taken out a injector to check this, nothing happen not sure if it should start spraying on turn over, but i did take it off and the pipe started to dripple on turn over, is this right? i am also getting fuel leaking from bottom of the fuel distributor and running down in the air box. it leaking down out of the pin in the bottom of the fuel distributor, i didnt thing fuel was surpose to come down it that far. any advice on getting it ticking over for the first time. cheers guys

that metering head is dead, it definitely shouldn't leak fuel out the bottom pin

k-jet fuel
Yeah, leaking fuel is bad. Have you checked where the leak is coming from? Might be poor connections on one or more of the hoses.
Once the leak is fixed, there's a pretty simple test you can do for the injectors. The test is to check good spray patterns, a good conical spray and no leaks upon stopping the intended injection. There are a few vids available online or you can view a pdf tutorial here:

If you are still having problems with fuel supply and you're not getting fuel to the injectors, maybe look at fuel pump, lifter pump or accumulator. A rusty filler neck and/or tank may be causing blockages. Check fuel filter for nasty gunk. There are some good troubleshooting guides on here, if you look under FAQ in the forum. I would have been a bit lost without this place.
Finding and stopping the leak has to be first port of call though.
