Squeaky exhaust on GTI cabby

Just hoping someone can point me in the right direction here as I'm doing long hours in work at the moment and can't check the car, just need to know what is wrong…

My Golf is an F plate GTI cab.

My exhaust is squeaking at the front of the car, around the manifold area.  It's not blowing at all, just squeaking when I change gear (so the engine and exhaust move and create a squeak), and when idling.  It is idling a little low so this won't be so bad when adjusted…

Anyone know what part of the system might be causing this?  I have a sneaky feeling it's the c-clamps but without having any spare time or means to get underneath and have a look I can't be sure.

Cheers,

Nick

Mine was doing this too but I had a hole in my downpipe - I had it chnaged while I was on holiday and now it's gone.

Cool, thanks guys.  I guess I'll put up with it for a few weeks then get it replaced.  :)

Mine used to do exactly the same, really annoying squeek when pulling away. I got through 2 downpipes due to wear out. It turned out to be front and rear mounts. I bought poly mount for front and went for mk1 diesel rear mount. Its been fine for ages now.
Try this first, its cheap and easy to do yourself.

Squeeky downpipe.

Hi Nick, i had this problem on my Sportline a few years ago, it was coming from the point where Manifold meets downpipe. After changing the downpipe and the O ring gaskets twice, I had enough!! Bought an all in one Stainless manifold and never squeeked again :)

Thanks for your help guys, very much appreciated.  :)

It's not been so bad since I took my cabby to the Nurburgring earlier this month, I think the 1200 mile round trip helped somehow lol.  Maybe the driving for 5 hours at a time with no break welded it all together!

However, I'll certainly look to change the parts asap, and a stainless manni sounds like a nice fix Guado!  Good suggestion on the mounts to Novocaine and Bez, cheers guys, I'll defo do this.  :)
