running problems

i have an 1800 gti cabby and seem to have a problem with the cold start valve.the car starts fine without it connected(electrically) when i connect it as it should be it coughs n splutters. obviously with winter comming this may pose a problem,any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try unbolting the cold start injector and tape it so it fires into a bottle then crank the engine from cold. It should squirt petrol for upto 12 seconds then stop and do it should do this only when cranking. If it behaves differently then investigate further…

I remember reading ages ago that the cold start valve isn't really needed in temperate blighty, it?s designed for winters on the German plain with icy -20c blasts from the east.  :dontknow:
