Running problem with my Mk1 Golf Cab!!

:D Hi, New to all this not sure if i'm doing it right?
Been into VDubs for years starting from Beetles to Bay windows and now to my Mk1 Golf Cab 89'.

Since i've had the car i've had a running problem in the winter. When driving it will start to lose power kangaroo down the road like it's starved of fuel. To get it going along the road i would have to pull choke right out and hold it out! The problem is not constant i could go weeks without it happening and then it could did it constantly for weeks then just stop, or one day good next day bad morning good evening bad i think ya get me drift!!

Also i can sit there reving the engine and not a misfire or power lost but as soon as i pull away either cuts out or kangaroos err! :banghead:

I've changed the carb, fuel filters cleaned tank, changed filler neck, changed all other filters, new therm stat, changed auto choke to manual, new leads and distrib cap and not one of the changes has worked  Don't know where to go next. :dontknow: Not even sure if it's fuel or electrics??

Has Anyone else had this prob or knows what it could be. You could save me losing more hair! I thought the Beetle and Camper where a nightmare! Thanks for your time.

Could be carb icing ? Are all the hoses and air filter correct ?
Used to have this on a VW , made a warm air cover to stop it .I take it this car is fine in warm/hot weather ?

Cheers…………….

Sorry bout the long delay cheers for ya help! Yep it's fine in the summer!

Had a look can't see any pipes coming off the Manifold, It's been changed from org because it's a S/S Manifold.

Can't find anything in Hanyes bout it? I know i'm prob being VERY Dumb   but how do i run a pipe from it? Do i have to weld a pipe to the Manifold or place a heat sheld around it with a pipe from that?

Chech your inlet manifold. I had similar problem 2006. Tried everything and eventually took it to Dubsport Wigan. Cracked inlet manifold. Very fine crack which expended at high temperature causing loss of power.

Only mentioning this as nobody else has - worth a try.

Cheers for that :D  just add that to my list off other things to check.

Think i've found a poss prob that i'm getting a mix of oil and water in the air filter box which sits on my carb. Could be contaminating the petrol :x

I think the oil is being blown out off the breather pipe which goes into the filter box then it's getting condensation.

Now just got to find out why this is happening :dontknow:
