Replacing fuel pump

hello there,

today it turns out that my fuel pump is dead,

the relay is fine there is 12V going to it when the ignition is on,

but the pump does nothing,

how hard is it to replace the pump,
i have ordered one, which will be arriving tomorro, so i intend on fitting it tomorro too,

can some one talk me through what is required to do?

im worried about gettin fuel every where,

also is the pump in two parts? only will be replacing one of them?

thanks alot

the pump has been rewired at some stage and is now seperate from the fuse box, - has a seperate relay and fuse,

now the pump is off the car, if i put volt meter over the two wires that were attached to it, i should get a reading of 12v when ignition is on?

i have also put 12v over the fuel pump off the car to see if it would prime, but it did nothing,

when the ignition is first switched on the pump should recieve a feed for a few seconds to pressureise the system

then once you crank/start the engine it recieves a feed of the coil

to keep it running so if the car is in a crash when the engine stops  so does the pump

been there done that, had to get aa out when my pump went cost me over ?100 for the pump. is it injection gti  :dontknow: if so one side of pump is low presure from tank easy just a jubliee clip. the other side is a flexy hose to the fuel acumulator which holds presure so be prepared to get covered in fuel :x . apart from that not to bad job if it all loosens of nice,. soke with wd40 first.ps rubber mounts to pump  can snap of too

it was acctually a facet pump -old style one, as im running a 16v on twin 45's

pump is off, i found two valve type things from a brake bleeding kit to block the ends off while there is no pump there,

i pick up my pump tomorro along with a new  twin cable throttle linkage  8)
