Problem starting after 1hr

Hi,

I wonder if anyone has any ideas regarding my starting problem with my 1983 Mk1 1.8GTI?

First thing in the morning it allway starts on the button. If you restart within 10 minutes it will start straight away but if you leave it for about an hour it turns over for about 20 seconds before it splutters into life, it then misfires and runs horrible for a few seconds before it clears and returns to normal. You can hear the fuel pump running when you turn on the ignition.

Any inspiration?

Spent a bit of time searching on the forum and it appears that it may be the non return valve on the fuel pump - I'll check this out.
