Powerflow VS Standard

i currently have this on my car:

But am thinking of going back to this…

What i want to know is will i notice any power losses or other in bhp or torque areas?
The system i currently have is a Powerflow (i think 2.5") with 3" tip, but i dont like it anymore after a few months of buying it
Want it to look standard, and sound quieter for long driving (like the taunton meets)

I'm not one for loud exhausts, I dont think you'll really notice any power loss from a mildly tuned or standard engine, may seem it as it will sound quieter…

Id like to have a stainless exhaust built close to the standard system.

Go back to standard and keep both…  that way you can change as and when you like !  :D

Not wishing to slate powerflow as they are only a franchise, therefore the end result is only as good as the welder/fitter doing the job. I had to get a court judgement for a refund for a stainless system that caused damage to my car and felll apart in a day then i was refused a refund.
That said I know a guy in Bridgewater who is top notch.

I found putting a standard system on a MK1 without the centre box increased back pressure and gave the car some more go. I ran a straight thru stainless group N spec system too and found very little difference between except for the refireing and noise…(which I do like..anyone whose followed the Rallye at night knows you can cook marshmallows with it) :D

ok im going old school lol
yeah i want it back now.
i found that big exhausts make me seem like im going slower as theres more noise - it sounds like its going far faster than it is, standard is like a sleeper pocket rocket  :D

its a slightly tuned 2.0 8v, no major mods yet.

Standard back box or similar with middle box off…worth a go.
I am putting a stainless ever slightly bigger than standard when I have the money. As I have a 2lt 8v lump in my campaign but if you find standard system as quick I would like to know…  :D

i found when i put powerflow back box on my 8v gti it seemed to lose back presser but felt faster because of the noise then i put ss middle box on from scorpion witch gave 4bhp more on rollers still with standerd center box then i went standerd and put genuine vw back box on but left scorpion on it gave another 2bhp and gave all back presser back and more torque it just shows vw made the back box right

so go standerd but make sure its a genuine back box

woah, thats a huge help actually! thankyou. So how do u get hold of the proper one? only from a proper vw dealer? so no one like an internet shop or quik fit will be proper at all? actually course they wont, yeah that makes sence.

hmm how expensive are they new then? gota get this sorted by sunday for the meet!

thankyou

ahh! lol i shouldnt have asked this.

I have to cut the powerflow off, if i want the exhaust on, which i WON on ebay! so hopefully will be with me soon.

like i said, its welded from front to rear, so i wouldnt be able to use it again really, its not like i can change it and swap if i wanted.

its just too noisey, for me now, and doesn't look very 'sleeper-like'

so im still stuck, will let u know what i do.

**Would anyone want to buy this from me anyway? To fit to their mk1?**

I've got a big, or should I say HUGE bore to sell too! I've just replaced it with a standard system yesterday. Its so quiet now, and I love it! The new system didn't arrive before I had to drive to surrey and back so I had to wear ear plugs to stop my ears ringing  8O

Any takers? (centre pipe included)

Go standard, You won't look back!

I'm debating if to stay standard or go modified/performance exhaust. I don't want large tail pipe or too loud though!

Best comparison I can make is the RC40 exhaust you can buy for classic Minis - I want one of these for my MK1 Golf!

hey hairyarse i can relate.
(to the arse bit not the exhaust).

No but seriously, try it, see what you think and as with everything keep the bits if you can to go back to standard.
Ive still got this one for sale if anyone is interested.

The RC40 does look like mine (now), but the box is smaller than mine, if i had have known this before i would have gone for that.
Actually if this one goes thats what i would get to replace it.

DE3660,

I'll have your exhaust from you, I need a 2.5 for my turbo caddy.not bothered about the backbox if someone REALLY wants it - but it would be good to get downpipe back system.

I'm in North Devon so can pick it up no problem.

I've PM'ed you. mail me on chillATndevonDOTacDOTuk

Cheers!
