Ongoing fuel system issues

Hello,

Ongoing fuel issues with my '83 gti. Managed to get her started over the weekend a few times, but each time it would cut out after about 10secs.

It struggles to start for a few secs beforehand, but then revs fine etc. until completely cutting out again.

Had one minor issue where a fuel line came loose and sprayed petrol all over the drive, that was easily resolved so i assumed the pump was ok :P

Had a look at the filter and all seems alright there too, no crud, and petrol seems to be reaching it fine.

Before it started having this problem i had the lines, pump and filter replaced. It had a new filler neck before i bought it, but don't think the tank was changed.

What would be the next step / area to check, injectors?

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

Sounds like no delivery to the main fuel injectors, the 10 secs running is probably from the fuel vapour supplied by the 5th (electrical) injector. This injector opens electrically so it will deliver at 0.1 bar, the mechanical injectors open due to fuel pressure and start opening at around 2.5-3bar. So, if I were you (but then I have a fuel pressure gauge) I'd do a fuel pressure test.

If I didn't have this, then I'd do a basic check that the metering head flap can move, is centralised and correctly adjusted within the conical tube (flap just below start of angled sides).
