my car won't run properly

Hi, I recently bought a mark1 gti cabriolet and have so far not managed to get it out past the garage door. It seemed to have an intermittant fault at first, which has got worse. Basically now, it will start sometimes straight away, but won't rev up and usually cuts out when you try to rev it up. At one point it was chucking almost neat fuel out of the exhaust, I replaced the cold start valve as someone told me it could be stuck on, making it overfuel, this made no difference. I then changed the fuel injection box, (the big bit with all the pipes) this helped and it seemed ok, it revved up great and i was getting all excited, then i turned it off to wash my hands and came back to take it for a spin and it wouldn't run again. It starts up just, but the same thing again, it wont rev up!
I'm out of ideas and am losing faith!
Does anyone have any suggestions?
thanks.

Hi have a search through -  "The VW Golf Mk1 Owners' Club Forum Index -> Big Block Injection Engines" - above here it should give you an idea where to start looking for your problem or at least help narrow it down ……….

jabba,

Make sure all the electrics are working correctly - might be worth replacing cap, rotor, leads etc.

The rotor has a rev limiter built in I think and this maybe playing up.

the only way to diagnose fuel issues is to get a proper series of pressure tests other wise it gets very expensive if you do not have known good parts to swap out.
