Mk 1 Cabrolet Fuel Problem

Help!

Ive got a golf cabrolet - Sport Line 1991 as soon as it sits in traffic and gets hot, the fuel pump gets very noisy and then the car cuts out for a few seconds and then starts and cuts out again.

If you leave it to cool down for 10 minutes its fine untill you stop start in traffic again. It runs fine on the motorway at a constant speed.  We have replace both fuel pumps  and pipes and fuel expansion tank has anyone got any ideas please!! Your help would be very much appreciated…………………

check the in-tank lift pump. disconnect one of the wires from the main pump and turnm the key 1 click, should hear the in-tank pump prime.

That is, if your car has the fuel relay that can prime the fuel system on the 1st turn!  if not crank the engine on the starter and you should hear the in-tank pump running.

The lift pump is found under the round metal disc under the rear seat, put your ear to it!  If you cant hear it you need a new pump, if you can hear it, take the pump out and check the filter screen and pipes to make sure they arnt blocked

Hi

Thanks for this but replaced lift pump and main pump and both work as they should, there is nothing blocking the pipes, we sat for an hour on the motorway with no problems its just when you stop start.

Thanks for your time :o
