Main Fuel Lines-whats the best replacement idea?

Hi, my main fuel lines from rear to front are corroding badly; so I need to replace them.Looking at the originals I think it could be difficult to fit new lines, especially, where they go through chassis at the front? Are these original steel lines still available [for an '82 Gti tin top]?or are there, flexible say S'Steel braided ones, or ,plastic ones now available?- and how to secure that type without having to drill chassis?Does anyone have the VW or other part numbers for these two pipes? If you can help that would be good.

Many thanks, Marcus.

crazyquiff does them all either solid or flexi, but not cheap! can buy 8mm copper line which would do the trick buy yourself a decent flare tool though. the old fittings can be reused if good otherwise you'll have to buy these as well

if its on k-jet you need to make sure the ends on the feed line are really good as they're going to see at least 5 bar of pressure sometimes can be high as 6, maybe more if there is a metering head malfunction! the return isnt under pressure no no worries there.

jonp is using digi managment which are max of 2.5-3bar so not so critical

Funny enough I too have the same problem, how did you get on with your braided hose?

Hi Dizzydubber, I have not had time to fit them yet, but they look to be well made. As their thicker than the original steel hoses it could be a problem to securely mount them. I do not want to drill the floor pan… Supplier suggested just removing rubber inserts from present clips and "that's all".
After fitting I will let you know how it went. Needs to be supported securely as unlike steel pipes it has no inbuilt strength.

if they're similar to crazyquiff i managed to squeeze them into the rubber inserts and bending the clips to support. was a bit fiddly but no big deal. a few wraps with insulation tape or similar would do, the whole point of the braid is to protect the lines from fraying though I suppose but id still like some protection before fitting em to the clips

Hi Rubjonny, Yes that seems to be the most sensible idea, and ,yes they are Crazy Quiffs. Your right about extra around the braiding or that could chafe the bottom. I use 'self vulcanizing' tape for everything.. and a couple of turns of that might do.
Also Rubjonny, can I thank you for all the immense help you have been to Scratch -who has been doing my Mk1 wired Mk2 (!) ABF for me- its much appreciated! :D  :D  :D I collect it tomorrow, should be fun :D

yeah that'll do, im sure i just used the old rubbers with a bit of loom tape round and i got em in without too much hassle. though they were 1983 ones so might have been a bit more squishy

Any updates Daytona?  Ive just removed mine this morning, and looks like I will have to replace both flexi pipes at the back from the accumulator aswell as the feed and return lines, how are you going about joining your new braided lines to the fittings at the mettering head and filter end, as mine seem are crimped into a metal fitting.

Hi Dizzydubber! no updates yet as I have a Mk2 as well and have just changed to an ABF engine which has taken up all my time and effort  , so, poor old mk1 sits in shed :( waiting for the work to be done.. When I ordered the kit from Crazy Quiff I got the complete kit which included those other pipes and I hope its straight fit(?)  I reasoned that if some were rotting , all might be rotting. Will let you know when I start.Keep happy :D
