lift pump

hi every one i have a mk1 cabby 1.8 8v gti and it keeps dying then coming back full power when  i bought it i had the bloke put a new fuel pump  on it the main one! under neath we kept trying to work out this problem as this man was a rally expert he checked every thing we ended up changing the lift pump and the car ran fine i used a mk2 1.8 8v pump,  a few weeks after the same problem reoccured! if anyone recognises this could you give me some ideas because ive checked the dizi and the fuel filter and could it be electrical? :lol need to check for rust dont i ! thanks dave

Hello and welcome to the club. Sounds like possible rust/fuel contamination, was there muck in the old lift pump? Easiest thing first is to check the filler neck, fuel tank and filter for muck, rust and holes.

thanks for that th tank is clean and its just had a nw filtr neck must just b the lift pump ill buy a new one and c how it goes
