just ran out of fuel in my 1.8 Valver

just ran out of fuel in my newly purchased series 2 1.8 16v. Have topped it up with fuel now its not starting any ideas? Its still turning over just not starting

i did the same and blocked the filter in the tank.
There is a link on here somewhere showing how to clean out the tank and that cured mine.

Does sound like it could be crap in the lift pump filter… The access hatch is under the rear seat (three screws I think). Just disconnect the fuel lines from it after you've gained access (you'll get some spillage), and the lift pump (including housing) will 'unscrew' a bit like a bayonet lightbulb. Then just lift it out carefully.

As a long term solution, if it is the above, you'll need to flush out and clean the tank. How's your fuel filler neck holding up?
