I'm new, please help.

I have a 1989 mk1 1.8, and it needs the manifold gasket replacing, which is getting very soon.  However I was driving today and noticed some steam coming from the floor or from behind the central area in the passengers side, it has been very wet (not sure if that had something to do with).  I felt around that area there was no major heat.  The temperature of the engine was fine, checked under the bonnet, nothing from what i could see, not even very hot, oil was also fine. Any ideas…..

thanks
gina

Could be 2 things:

1. a small leak on a hose connection, or withing the heater matrix itself
2. You have a leak in the bodywork (not too unlikely, on a cabby)! and its warmed up and started to steam, in that area, due to the exhaust being directly underneath.

Am I understanding this right? You saw steam rising from the foot well inside the car!
