How do I get my Lift pump out to clean the filter

Recently changed my filler pipe and want to clean my lift pump filter but cant see how I get it out.

Tank is more or less empty, took both the pipes off and removed the electrical connector but just couldn't seem to get a good purchase on the top of the pump assembly it to remove it.

I assume it unscrews??  any tips, suggested tools or methods greatly appreciated.

I use a shaped metal bar but haynes suggests two screwdrives levering against each other - do not hit it - it will break
