right buddy i'll do my best to explain, as i did this the other week,

jack car up as high as you can! axle stand with wood on them at back of sills i did,

undo your hand brake cables inside the car, pull them through so they underneath car

undo flexi brake lines from the solids, they pass through the rear axle,

put a jack under rear axle to support it so it doesnt drop on you

slacken the bolts that go through the bottom of shocker,

undo the 2 big nuts on each side of the rear axle, located very back of the sill,

undo rear shocker bolts,

and lower to floor and move out way,

on to the tank….

remove pipe from filler kneck to fuel tank,

remove breathers that you will see,  run along side of tank,

if you have a lift pump like i did, use that with a pipe on it to syphon all fuel out of tank,

then disconnect the pipes and wires from lift pump

there are 2 straps that hold your tank in, which run ront to back,

undo the bolts al front of the vehicle, straps should then hang down, and they have a hook in other side, so just un hook those,

i managed to get mine out with out taking my back box off!! just got my mate to lever it out way as it flexed a small amount on rubbers.

once old tank out take lift pump out and fit it in new tank, so the hole is filled and no crap lands inside,

hope that helps, chris

There is a round inspection plate (has three screws holding it down) on the drivers side under the back seats, you will need to remove the sender to look into the tank, just be careful as petrol is involved  8O

phew! hope i can find the leak from their other wise i gota drop the tank.      :(

The leak could be from the rubber hose that joins the tank to the filler neck, also mine leaked from the fuel pump situated near the fuel tank.

would i be able to get to that pipe and replace it through the inspection hole, or without dropping tank.

To get to the rubber hose that joins the filler neck to the tank You just need to get the car onto a set of ramps or put the rear of  the car on axel stands and slide underneath as its under the car exsposed to the elements !

The exhaust rear section needs to come off to remove the tank, so you may as well delay this job until you've resolved the fuel tank issue, or combine the 2 jobs together.

if i remove the axle along with flexis does that mean i have to  re bleed my brakes??? or can i just swing it out of the way underneath at all?

Nope, you have to bleed the brakes. Also you will probably have to disassemble and reassemble the drums, since the handbrake cables need to come out too. And you may also hit problems with seized rear shock bottom bolts. And rusty/sheared off studs holding the axle to the car.

Basically, the job varies a lot depending on how good condition existing components are. I've had a 1984 car where everything came off-on smoothly and it was no hassle, and I've seen other cars where I've spent days grinding seized bolts away with a Dremel, bodges like the axle directly welded to the body, etc.

You could take the handbrake cables off at the lever end. I did this as I had not long before renewed the shoes, cylinders, etc. Depends if you want to service the brakes/bearings at the same time.

just got it up in the air and coated everything in wd40 so its ready for tomorow. Do i remove the two bolt on the side of the bushes which hold the axle on, or the bolt which goes through the middle??

Hi Guys

Just thought i'd join in as just done my tank. From memory i didnt take the axle off fully. Just undid the break lines and the big axle bolts and angled the whole lot down at the front. This gave enough clearance to get the tank out! I put some poly bushes on whilst i was at it!
