Gti tintop fuel tank

Post

Does anyone refurb them?

Due to rusty filler neck filling the tank up with metal cancer i replaced the whole fuel system for new,  filler neck,  tank,  fuel lines etc
The new tank (from heritage) doesn't have a swirl pot and it's causing fuel starvation issues under hard cornering.  Large roundabouts are a nightmare with any less than quarter of a tank of fuel.
Are there any companies out there who could be recommended to refurb my original tank? Or know of any companies making new ones?  The one from heritage advertised for a gti is just not suitable

you could fit a post-84 cabrio/scirocco or any g40shape polo lifter pump and fuel reservoir, main issue there is squeezing the reservoir in as it supposed to fit where the tintop gti fuel accumulator is

I would guess that the accumulator would still stay though?
Is the lifter pump and reservoir one combined bit of kit?

2 seperate items, you need to keep the accumulator if the engine is still on kjet, if EFI of some kind it can be binned

Nice one,  cheers for that.
So just to confirm then, will need to put both lift pump and reservoir between the tank and accumulator,  can I just piggyback the lift pump wiring from the standard kjet pump or will I need to throw in some extra wiring and a relay?. Do you know if bits from a 1.6 Freg mk2 would be any good as there is one tucked away at the back of my mates yard i can pillage bits from.  Cheers. Karl

the lift pump and accumulator go before the fuel pump, the lifter pump fills the tank up and the tank stops the pump starving of fuel :)

the accumulator goes after the fuel pump and is there to smooth out fuel pulses to the kjet injection system and help retain fuel pressure after engine shut down.

you can piggy back into the main pump loom, just try to get the 3 pin plug from the donor car. but if you dont you can get them from many vw and seat, pre-90 mk2 lifter pump, all mk2 lighting looms have 2 of them for the headlight range motors, etc.

MK2 lifter pump unit is different so wont fit unfortunatly, but you could take the actual pump off the lifter assembly if you need it as its the same as the pump on the mk1 lever sender assy. as I say the 3 pin plug for it will do you too if you need one :)

You can have your tank refurbed. This is how I did mine. This is the best option as no more rust and lifetime guarantee. Any other tank will rust in time.

I didn't realise this could be done. I've just emailed them for a quote.

I do have a new VW heritage tank and top lift pump but would prefer to use my old Gti tank :)

We should see if they can give a discount for forum members, there could be future business for them.

I'm the same as you Rich, just bought a new tank but it's a pattern tank and I would prefer to use my original one.

They said they would give 5% off for members when I took them my tank but was a few years ago now.

Remember to ensure all the inlets and outlets are clear before reinstalling your tanks. My return into the swirl pot was blocked with sealer which sent system pressure too high.

Cheers for the tip Rajan.

Andy give me a shout when you're having it done :)
