fuel tank

hope someone can help ..
i bought a refurbished fuel tank ..great …problem is now that ive had a closer look at it ..there are differences ..my original tank has 4 outlets on it .when ive taken the sender unit out there is something in the tank there are 2 pipes leading to  2 of the outlets ..the new tank as only 2 outlets with nothing inside ..have i been sold  the wrong tank

sounds to me like you have a mk1 gti fuel tank, and have been sold a carby fuel tank or later cabby/rocco one.

what car is it you have?

its a tin top 1800gti ?? is there any way we can use the tank ..unlikely i know …

Not really, send it back and get the proper one. I assume one of the outlets your missing is the fuel outlet at the side, whch connects to the fuel pump. This will be the sticking point.

you could use it if you also got the lifter pump and fuel reservoir off a later cabby/rocco or mk3 polo (g40 shape) but it would be a squeeze under there. far easier to just get the right tank. make sure its a proper GTI tank with the internal swirl pot too
