Fuel tank replacement

Hi Eveyone
I have purchased a new fuel tank for my 1988 Mk1 Golf Cabrio and want to know how easy it is to fit? I have replaced most parts on the car. Does anyone have a diagram or some instructions that I can read on this. very much apriciate some advice. Thanks

haynes manual best bet ……….

Soak all fixings with WD40 the night before .

Its been covered on here a few times. I did a bunch of pics on it, but as other tasks rather than as a job/thread on its own. The search engine is your friend here, I suspect.

Its a little bit involved because the axle needs to come out the way.

i'm in the middle of doing it now.

unless you

a) have a friend
b) are really strong
c) are good with spanners and seized bolts
d) can do brakes
e) risk needing to buy new rear shocks
f) have a nice tidy place off the road (ie garage etc)

i'd not start it.

but i've gone too far to turn back so will finish!!!

a) - axle can sit on a trolley jack, tank it light enough to lift/lower by one person
b) - so long as you use trolley jack, should be okay for the average person…
c) agree
d) agree
e) should be able to leave the shocks connected, just remove the axle front pivot bolts (see c though)
f) agree - need a bit of space to put stuff as it comes off, and get in/out from underneath car, etc.
