fuel tank, differences?

can you help?

ive got a cabby 1.6 gli 1982 (injection) and its needs a new fuel tank. trouble is its not clear which one i need.
i know theres a 55ltr tank and a 40ltr tank, i understand the basic shape of the car has remained the same,
but im still uncertain and just wanna be right before i spend any money.

When you say its not clear, where are you looking for the information, which parts supplier? Where did you get the 40l and 55l figures from? AFAIK the capacities of the smaller one is 45l but will be corrected if wrong.

There are 2 differnt types of 45l tank, one for fuel injection and diesels, and one for carb models. You need the one for FI.

The basic shape of many components is the same, but the exact shape is slightly different - and the details are important!

can u give me a website u got your info from so i can have a look, please. seller on ebay in germany selling 2 tanks one 40ltr the other 55ltr.
and cos im missing the sticker in the boot i have no codes

40/55 is prob refering to tintop mk1 gti and later cabby/rocco fuel tank?

look at the driver side of the tank, is there an L shaped pipe there which connects to the fuel pump? if so its a mk1 gti fuel tank you need. make sure its a good quality one with an internal swirl pot though, some of the cheaper ones dont have this
