fuel stravation!

as above, in a 1.3 driver. when i boot it, or when the engine gets to highish revs, round 4 - 5000 and holds for a while its starts jerking and slowing down, then it will cut out and the battery/oil lights will come on. funnily enough it usually fires straight back up on half choke, but then it stopped pumping fuel to the carb. it was pumping it from the tank but nothing came through the filter toi the carb. i removed it and pumped it by hand, which strangely worked and i managed to get the engine primed enough to start, i screwed it back on and its works again(for now!!) . its a new pump to!! why might it be doing this?? im very confused so any help?? :dontknow:

cheers

hi there

a few years ago now i bought a 1300 driver from a guy i know locally and he had the same problem with it as your having,

what i ended up doing was removing the tank unit from the tank and on the end of the pick up pipe there was a white plastic filter like thing, i cut the very end of the pick up and put in a couple of in line filters and it run a treat after that, it's pretty straight forward to do.

do you mean filters inside the actual petrol tank? im fitting a new downpipe shortly and cleaning a probable large ammount of crap out of the tank. is this what it will be picking up? im running two inlines already, one before the pump and one after. i noticed the one before the pump has a fair bit of poo in it, so its next on the fettling list.

the filters i mean in line filters just before the fuel pump, it is possible for it to be picking up the rust and stuff from inside the tank if the filler neck is rotten and there is a posibility of it blocking the pick up pipe as it is just a small guaze filter on the end of the pipe and it wouldn't take much to stop the flow of the fuel up to the carb, if your going to put new inline filters i would probably put the two of them before the fuel pump as you want to try stop the rubbish getting in to the fuel pump.
