Fuel starvation when picking up revs

Hi guys

My son and I have just bought a 1989 gfi cabrio mk1 golf it's awesome but I have a problem with it missing (fuel)

When the revs a kept under 3000  ,all ok but when you accerate through the rev range towards 5000 the car misses

There is a noise coming from the rear of the car by the drivers rear wheel ,thought it was the pump but it appears to bbe the accumulator can anybody help

there is a pump under there to by where the accumulator is, theres should also be a lift pump in the tank to assist it, lift up rear seat and you will see a black dish with 3 screws holding it down, remove there screws and you will see the sender unit with 2 pipes and an electrical plug.
heres mine

check you can hear this one running also as a start, if not remove it by removing the 2 pipes and the plug and knocking the outside edge round (anti clockwise to remove) and pull it out, be careful as you fuel sender is part of this too and it all only just fits out the whole, i brought a new pump from gsf last week for 11 quid i think

if this is running you could try changing the filter, the big one in the engine bay and i think theres a small one in the main fuel pump also theres one on the bottom of the lift pump (or transfer pump) in pic above as golfs are common for having rusty fuel filler pipes resulting in loads of rust and crap in the tank ..

see how you get on

Thanks very much for the info very useful I will contact gsf for the  pump,

Checked the fuel neck and there is small holes at the top so I'm gonna change asap,

Is that noise from the accumulator by the pump outside the tank is it suppose to make a gurgling noise ?

mine made a gurgling noise when my lift pump died as the main pump was doing all the work, don't go and buy one yet mate have a look at yours first, yours might be ok and the money can go elsewhere if that isn't your problem. And defo not worth changing yet if you have a knackered filler pipe, get that done first and go from there :D

My accumulator was making a squealing and gurgling noise...I changed the in-tank lift pump and now all is good, running great with no odd sounds :)
