fuel pump

hi can any one help ,when i start my car when its cold ,when in turn on the ignition my pump does not prime for a few seconds like it did [buzzing  noise  ] but the car will start and run but when i want to accelarate there seems to be holding back like fuel starvation but if i put my foot right down it will go but i should not have to do that .Just wondered if my main fuel pump has gone or not working up to scratch ,any ideas please as they are expensive to buy …thanks pete

by the way ive changed all fuel lines cleaned out tank got new lift pump ,filter but still playing up ..

prime feature is done by the pump relay, but its not required for car to start.  sounds liek it might be worth trying another pump relay, gsf will sell you one

JUST TO LET YOU KNOW, I RECENTLY BOUGHT A NEW FUEL PUMP AND PETROL FILTER FOR MY '89 MK1 CABBY, FOR THE GRAND SUM OF £26 FROM ALLPARTS, CROYDON, PHONE NO; 0208 684 8181 FOR ANYONE WHO NEEDS PARTS THEY'RE PRETTY GOOD. THE SYDENHAM BRANCH USED TO BE CALLED VEE WEE'S, THEIR PRICES FOR PARTS HAVE BEEN VERY REASONABLE, A FEW TIMES WAY LOWER THAN I EXPECTED.
