Fuel Pump relay Bridge

Does anyone know what pins to short out in the fuel pump relay socket to check if the fuel pump is running?

2 weeks ago my GTi cut out going along a dual carriageway, i ended up having to push it along to a bus stop about 150m along the road  8O .
Anyway, it seemed similar to when my fuel pump relay was packing in, so i removed the relay and it was full of water.  8O .
I dried out the relay at work that day and the car got me home that night, but would not start in the morning.

I'm fairly sure that it is going to be the relay but before splashing cash on a new one, i would like to make sure the car starts when i by-pass the relay with a link. (if its that easy!!)

I'm guessing its a link between the 2 large terminals on the relay but would rather have this confirmed before i try it.

Cheers,
Cam80.

Yea its the two big ones that match the two big copper contacts on the relay.

You need to fix the water leak and also the relay/fuse board might be damaged if its been wet. :dontknow:

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks a lot guys,

Finding the leak will be the biggest problem (hopefully, fuel issue easy to find). I think it's behind the dash somewhere, thought it was weird to have the FP relay filled with water but the drivers side footwell is the one which is usually wet?  :dontknow: Unless the water has run along the bar behind the dash. It needs to be found anyway.

The injector test link was superb.

Thanks again,

Craig.

Leak will probably be the scuttle panel. Try lifting the windscreen rubber and have a look for any rust bubbles. This will probably indicate more severe rusting further under the rubber... This is what was causing my leak onto the fusebox...

If it is the scuttle it's a window out job and then either some sanding, rust treating, filling and painting or welding a new section in depending on how extensive the damage is…
