fuel pump probs GTI

was a nice weekend in lancashire and decided to get the old girl out for a spin but she wouldn't start checked plugs but they where dry so looked like no fuel also when i turned on ignition there was no usual pump priming the system decided to remove pump and check tested it with a battery and it pumps out very well,
the question is, is there a relay or something to make the pump work? if so where is it located and where would i get a new one?

The relay is located at position 2 on the diagram.



Put you finger on it as you switch on the ignition, you should feel it click if it is working.


The INJECTOR TEST will show you how to make up a jumper wire to check that it is actually the relay that is at fault.  You can get them from GSF etc new or Mr Quiff 2nd hand.

wish id not dismantled the pump now should have known it wasn't that as it was new 18mths ago

it must be ok as mine looks bear as well suppose some could be for things we ain't got like air-con power hoods etc i don't know what they are for either  :dontknow:

this is the list of relays fro a 1982 GTI hope that fills in some of the gaps. as already pointed out you will have gaps.

The relay board I posted is related to the later cabriolet and not earlier tintop models.  It includes all optional extras and add-ons that would be on the Mk2 Scirocco aswell as they share the same fuseboard.

put new relay in still same problem pump not working tested pump again runs fine think its time to call my auto electrician as running out of ideas

would you believe it had electrician up today tested the new relay and it was knackered he opened up the old on said "I see whats wrong got his soldering iron out and mended the old relay all i have to do now is put the pump back
