fuel pump noise ??? any help please

hi im new here and the forum looks great!!!

anyways!

i was wondering if anyone could help me out??

ok i have a mk1 golf convert H reg 1990.

the fuel pump has been making a noise and the noise is getting worse i was going to fit a new pump but when i went to see were the pump was there was a black box and a pump looking thing next to it was just wanting to check what one it was and it the black box thing thats making the noise any help would be great thanks

hi, the pump is sat in that black box thing, it will be making a noise, if its loud then it could be on its way out, mine was making a noise for nearly 3 years before it went down and mines a daily driver, the pump is fairly straight forward to replace but you may have fun with rusty bolts and really tight conectors

You will have a lift pump in the tank as well. As these start to fail they put more strain on the main pump, fuel gets aerated and the pump makes more noise.

There is also another side effect, the main pump has to work harder and draws more current, which makes the fuel pump relay in the fuse panel get very warm and in some cases melt, even the soldered joints, this in turn corrodes the contacts in the relay plate…

ade right, i forgot to mention that, worth checking the lift pump in the tank too, back seat out, cover off and remove it, worth cleaning out the filter on that too
