fuel pump 12v supply

i have a bad connection reading 7v to the pump when cranking could i bypass a 12v feed from the battery on a switch and engage the switch when im cranking . or is that not an option thankyou for all your help cheers

  1. Have you disconnected the pump and tried it?
  2. Have you checked the earths?

It maybe the pump thats causing the voltage drop, and also may just be a bad earth I'd find out why its doing it before you go about 'hotwiring it'. Its never a good idea to wire it up other than the way its intended.

new pump .bypass?

its a new pump i have also tested it.it was working fine apart from the car kept cutting out and now wont start at all so im guessing its the voltage drop . all the wires/connections are fine earthed etc, would it be safe to bypass it straight from a 12v supply controlled via a switch on the dash say?
