fuel prob need help big time

hi posted a note about a fuel problem changed fuel pump in ;line filter and have jus checked the tank it looks new theyre is no rubbish in it i dont know why it has this prob please help

it s a 1989 golf cabriolet 1.8 automatic
 

fuel starvation problem as earlier post this is what i have done

changed in line filter

put in new fuel pump

checked tank looks newish and filler neck

fuel seems to be running fine to the regulator


dont know waht else to do also i lost my petrol cap could that have caused a prob also my rocker cover gasket kept leaking told my breather were blocked

dont know if that has made it worse

if you r in scotland give me a shout any help would be great

also had car serviced and replaced distrbutor and rotor arm.

its funny sometimes it plays up other times its fine ill be driving and the car will splutter ill pull on to the hard shoulder take my foot off the gas and after coasting for 5 secs it will be fine and drive okay then once it cut out and wouldnt start for a couple of minutes then it started up ok and drove fine

dont know what to do

did notice after i opened the tank up and checked it it drove fine but i only went for a 15 minute drive .


ps my sender unit is different to the one at the top of the forum mines didnt have a filter in the tank it hd a pipe on the sender unit that colected the fuel

i prob sound really stupid but jus giing as much info as i remember it
