Fuel Filter Problems

Evening all

I am having some problems with changing my Fuel Filter.  I have been to GSF and have now been sold 2 different filters for my Mk1 GTI Cabrio.  The second one was picked by them by entering the code from my current one into their computer.  The only problem with this is that each side of the filter takes a different size bolt to attached the pipes.  Strangely to follow the flow using the arrow on the filter they are around the wrong way and to enable it to attach to the pipes i need to turn the filter round and run it against the arrow (which looks the same then as the current filter).

The make of filter i have been sold is a Mann Filter.  Has anyone else had any problems like this when changing their filters?

Thanks

Well i have now been supplied with the correct fuel filter.  I have cleaned the tank out of all the crap via the hole in the top of the tank ensuring that the pipes and connector went back on the right way and now the fuel pump doesn't want to run.

Any help greatly welcomed before the car get set alight or worse stuck on ebay.. lol

This is driving me nuts…..

Yep when I restored the GTI I removed a working fuseboard/fuel pump relay and the simple act of being left in warm dry box for 6 month made the relay not work......

my replay clicks but nothing turns on at the other end of the car.  But a couple of days ago that bit of the car seemed to be working fine…

Such a waste of money at the moment as its mot'd and taxed and i cant use it…. :-(

Have you checked the wiring and that you get electrical of power at the fuel pump?

only checked the one at the small in tank pump as that is the only one i had moved about.  Will jack the car up tomorrow and check the main one.

Did i read somewhere that the relay has a crash cut out and is it possible this may have been triggered for some reason?

nah no crash cutout. get a bit of wire and bridge the 2 large terminal sockets on the relay socket, if pump still doesnt run you have a wiring fault, blown fuse or dead pump(s)

check for any loose brown wires up at the fusebox, the earth for the pump(s) runs up there

Have finanlly diagnosed that the relay is faulty.  Made the switched connection manually and the pump came on and the car started.. woohoo

Now just need to find somewhere that sells the relays at a decent price.. lol
