Fuel Filler Pipe ? possible problem?

Hi

I had problems with rough running which I thought I had cured ? the weber carb was rebuilt ? but driving home last Friday in torrential rain the car started to cough and splutter.

I have a theory and just wondered if anyone else had encountered this problem.

The fuel filler pipe is coroded at the filer cap end (well I never!), could water be getting in through the corrosion in sufficient quantities to cause a problem?

How difficult is it to repair?

Thanks
Paul

PS ? Has run OK today.

It's not water that's the problem ,it's the rust from the filler neck floating around in the tank and blocking the outlet.

Need to replace filler neck first to stop any more rust getting in. Then clean the tank out to stop the pump / fuel lines getting blocked.

Then should be good to go again. Might be worth fitting an inline filter between the tank and the pump (by the 90degree elbow) to filter any final bits of crap out…
