Fuel Filler Neck Dilemma 1989 Clipper
I have been told by our local VW specialist garage that the fuel filler neck pipe thing has corroded on my 1989 GTi Clipper, which in turn has sent a load of debris into the sender pump (the one in the tank?) and killed it.
Sourcing a replacement pump has been fine, but I've been told that the filler neck is now obsolete for this model of car and so a bit of a pain to find…..
After much trawling, the husband has tracked down someone who makes up stainless steel replacements at £130 each. Our local VW garage has said they can find me one for £40, but my internet research is making me think that the cheaper pipe may be from the tintop mark 2 and therefore may need some tinkering with to make it fit properly.
My question is…..is it worth the extra £90 for the stainless steel one (and the extra 2 weeks the car is off the road whilst waiting for the part), or is the cheaper one just as good?
Many Thanks!
