Fuel consumption

I have a left hand drive 1981 1500 Automatic, which returns around 28 mpg in everyday use, only about 30 on a run. Is this about normal or should I expect more? If so, what do I need to improve? It was professionally tuned up about 3 months ago.
Thanks

Don't think that's bad at all for an Auto

I seem to get similar out of my 1.8 '89 auto, although the handbook that comes with the car states you should get 34mpg on a run (I think!)

Hmm… :dontknow:

Thanks for the thoughts.  I'll work it out properly on the way to Gaydon at weekend. I don't know what I could do to improve it other than replacing the carb, which is likely to be expensive.
