Hi, i`m thinking about replacing the whole lot.  The pipes arnt in too bad  condition but at the rear they have been joined with flexible piping abd i was hopeing to get the proper lines and connections.

I remember a post on here a while back about someone who had some flexible lines made up to go front to back.  Was wondering if they were doing the job OK, because if I replaced mine (which is on the cards) i would seriously considor these as a replacement for the steel ones mainly due to ease of fitment.

I've seen how tight they are at the front of the vehicle, and having recently done the brake lines on mine and struggled with these, I dred to think how difficult it would be with fuel lines that don't flex as easily in a simelar sized gap!!

Still have to tackle this on mine, but by all accounts the solid OEM lines are v. tricky to fit with steering rack in-situ. Problem is the lines need to go through hole in floorpan then kick back behind rack. Not much space. Might have to resort to taking the rack off first (?)

I think fitting originals is not too bad if you undo the steering rack and pull it away from the bulkhead.

This is a job I plan to do after my brakelines. I got a complete set off Rich (Crazyquiff), one original VW one and one he has had remade from an original.

I think its one of those things where it might be worth trying to scrounge the use of a proper ramp as part of the problem is getting access under the car.

I need to replace my rear brake lines as well.  I was told they are available from a company called automec premade which sounds pretty usefull.  I have access to a ramp my only problem is actually getting the fuel lines delivered due to their size.  Does anyone know of a courier company who could transport something of this size?

Dani

Automec pipes (fuel & Brake) are delivered with end fittings already swaged on and in coils of about 1 Ft (30 mm if yer not Christian) dia.

still has the steel pipes if you prefer those…..note my comments about "work-hardening" the copper pipes if you bend them too many times.

Use your old pipes as patterns when bending up the Automec pipes.

I used automec brake lines on mine as a replacement and they fit well.

Have a free tip from me though, if you're going to do them, then take your time bending them acurately,  and also make notes of what line goes where on the rear compensating valve. I didn't, and had to look at a friends car to get it right!   Also rear brake lines from the rear wheel to the flexi hose on the rear beam are nigh on impossible without removing the rear beam. Also take oppotunity to renew master cylinder and brake light switch as well, improvement to the braking system is enormous with a new master cylinder.

Thanks for the responses.  I have already rebuilt my rear axle including the brake pipes which join to the flexipipe.  I`m going to get the fuel and brake pipes from automec and give it a go.  I may as well do it now whilst the car is in pieces and i have access to a ramp rather than later down the line when it fails an mot.  Still got new sills to put on and various other repairs to do before that though.
