I have an 83 golf which has a 1.8 16v KR engine from a mk2….its currently running with Yamaha R1 carbs and has a facet fuel pump.
The problems i'm having are:
Number 1, is it supposed to tick constantly all the time when the ignition is on, it tickS one after another quite fast, i thought it should tick every now and again, but its just tick, tick, tick, tick non stop CONSTANTLY.
and number 2, its leacking randomly, sometimes it leaks, other times nothing at all and its bone dry. usually on starting the car up, it leaking from the pipes joining to the pump and coming from the pump, like the pressures built up and made it leak, there cant be a hole in the pipes as it dosent do it all the time??
Its always ticked, but has only just started to randomly leck.
Any help would be great.

The leak could be the connection, there's a male
Thread that goes into the pump which has a rubber oring, take it out and put some sealing compound on designed for fuel and ensure they are in fact tight.

I'll take it off tonight and have alook at that o ring see if i can see anything, its just very odd that its only leaking now and again, come to think of it, its when the fuel starts to run low….?
Could there be a build up of air causing excess pressure?

Yeah it ticks constant but goes quite and you can literally hear its pumping 'thick' kinda thing.

hmm i'll have a listern tonight, mine dosent seem to go quiet, it just ticks really fast at first, which i presume is when its priming itself then slows down slightly but dosent go quiet.
Thanks
