Mine needed a carb/manifold flange as it was leaking air in..
What year is it? My MOT station also struggled with mine as its a 92 and borderline if a CAT should be fitted.

CO or HC? and what values over? The limits are quite generous and are well within the limit for normal running, my best advice is if its high CO to let the garage tweak the mixture there & then, while the gas analyser is sniffing. You'll be guessing yourself. If its not possible to adjust it to pass in 1/4 hour, by all means post more details etc.

Is the garage fixing it or putting in an additive?

garage that has been fixing it( needed new exhaust and more) ( just bought car ) is not an mot garage it goes to a separate garage for mot .its had all the work done to get it through and they said they would add a thing called "forties" to the fuel to reduce co .

"Forte" is a brand of products used by people like Aston Martin and other reputable companies. Its supposed to be one of the bestter ones.
I ran their fuel system cleaner thru mine and and have had nothing but trouble since….. :dontknow:

I'm personally amazed a garage would add some kind of "wonder chemical" to a car as the first step, rather than adjusting the mixture screw.
