Downpipe query

Hi there ppl, my downpipe on my 1.6 carbed engine cabrio is blowing.
My original downpipe is the six bolt type
and was wondering if this downpipe that is being sold on ebay would fit??  http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-MK1-GTI-CABRIO-SCIROCCO-EXHAUST-DOWNPIPE-/150448862102?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2307737396
Any info much appreciated.

It should do yes. But the listing has finshed.
I got mine from GSF. £50 ish if I remember correctly. Don't forget the gasket :-)

>aug 83 have a different fitting so be careful - they have a bush and C clip system that clamps the downpipe to the manifold.

Interesting!!!???

Well it would seem I have a weird down pipe.
Due to my understanding and previous enquiries I went out and got a GTi down pipe thinking it would fit onto my manifold, BUT when i got the original bolts off and drop my original down pipe I discovered a few things.
1. although it has the holes for the six bolts and studs it appears the manifold is of a smaller diameter and would not line up!??!
2. My original downpipe is not the same lentgh as the Gti downpipe and is linked to a flexi pipe that connects to the rest of the system……..

Which left me with no choice but to paste up the original downpipe to stop the blowing but it has left me truly stumped as to what the heck kind of downpipe and exhaust manifold I have on my engine.

Any advice is much appreciated

You have a non-GTI manifold and downpipe. In answer to the original question, no it won't fit because its a different size - but you've now found that out?

Main problem is where to get a new downpipe. I have not seen any where that supplies one.

I can't help, I've not seen them for sale etc and I don't think a 'normal' exhaust includes that part. Can it be welded to repair it?
