Cold starting problems

My 1991 Golf GTI Cabrio Sportline has problems on first start in the mornings,  as if it needs more fuel/choke when its warm 5 mins all is OK. Could get worse in Winter. Any ideas on a fix would be appreciated.

Cheers

I'd be tempted to tweak the mixture so its a compromise between cold, and warm, running. You need to find out if its lean or rich during cold running; and also if its lean, correct, or rich, once warm too.

If you can find a zone where cold & warm running is okay, this would avoid having to replace the warm up regulator (whose job it is to make sure the engine runs properly during warm up). Also it could be the system fuel pressure, this also has an influence of the amount of fuel supplied in cold and warm running.
