cold start valve question

Hi Again Guys, just a quick question, ive been testing my cold start valve on my mk1 and it seems not to be working, i know it show squirt on cranking, but nothing, i have checked the power to it and there is, and i know that the thermo-switch earths this to run and when warm enough shuts off. my questions are how much power show be going to the cold start on crank (i measured 9.5 volts).

also i tested the cold start valve by running a bypass on the pump to run it without turning it over everytime, and putting a direct feed of power to and earth it and it worked good.  so i can't understand why it wont work cranking over. i know it gets it opower from the starter motor. does the cold start valve run through a fuse or relay? cheers

it doesn't have its own relay

it should only come on for 2-3 seconds on startings from cold

the thermo time switch tells it when to come on as this

you should be getting around 12v at the cold start valve but if you have power there then that should be ok

cheat the thermo time switch

if it dosen't have a relay it must run through a fuse, i can see it being a direct link off the starter motor. but you hink it should have a 12v feed to this.

it get's it power from the second pin on the starter motor through the earth path on the tts make or breaks the circuit,so as long as you have that it should work,no fuse needed

Look at the wiring diagram - the TTS and cold start valve are both in the circuit, which is fed from terminal 50 either from the starter motor or the fusebox (+12V only when starter motor cranking). Its not just a case of running a wire here & there, you'd need to make up the correct circuit to test it, or wire a dash mounted switch independent of the TTS.

As I have been having starting problems I tested the Cold Start Valve and it has around 9V and squirting fuel ok.

Considering the Starter is cranking drawing alot of power from the battery I would say it is very unlikely to have 12V as anyone with A voltage VDO guage would see it dip down to around 9V on cranking as I do.
