clipper running problem,
Been out driving today everything was fine then in 5th gear doing 45-50 it seemed to hesitate so dropped it in to 4th accelerated and there was no power as if it wanted to stall, I had to rev it quite high to keep it moving any any gear,
There seems to be a big flatspot as you gently accelerate away from junction or roundabout where it wants to stall so had to slip the clutch slightly and rev it high to pull away safely,
the fuel was quite low when it started doing this so put some more fuel in and limped it home,
Could it be a blockage as the fuel was low..eg all the crap thats starving the carb of fuel when the accelerator pedal is pressed causing it to stall or something else?
Any ideas suggestions would be great as it was driving fine until then

Is it a pierburg carb? They are buggers for going wrong

There are a number of things that can cause this:
Rust/debris in the tank caused by a bad filler neck now or in the past - check condition under back seat fter removing sender
Blocked fuel line or filter - easy to check - filters cheap to replace
Fuel pump delivery weak
Swirl pot on the front of the engine defective
Debris in the carb - dismantle and clean - rebuild kits usually availble
Cheers

should i fill it up and try clearing it out by diluting the dirty petrol with clean stuff?

If I were you I would fill the tank and never let it drop below a quarter. You dont know what debrit is floating about in the bottom. One bit of crap could go to the carb and end up in a strip down and a rebuild. Also, stick an in-line fuel filter on it. The only a couple of quid and could save the day. Its worth kepping that extra £10 of fuel in the tank. Just pretend a quater of a tank is empty.
