Clipper not running properly

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated,

i have an '88 clipper and i had problems with the carb so i bought a brand new webber due to the car cutting out and not being able to adjust the pierberg properly so i fitted the new webber and first time started perfectly and the car sounded as sweet as a nut.  but when we took the car out for a drive it went perfect but under hard acelleration it just dies…

i have done everything i can think of even put in clear fuel lines running from the fuel sender through the bulkhead to the fuel pump and for the return to see what is happening with the fuel and when driving normally the fuel flows freely no problem, howeber when you put your foot down all the car seems to do is draw air through the lines causing the engine to die due to lack of fuel?

i am all out of ideas on this as to where the air is coming from and the tank has been taken out and cleaned due to the fuel neck rotting and the tank is now full to the brim with petrol so the pickup should be just getting fuel in theory, but im tottaly lost now.. and any help would be greatly appreciated :)

thanks

Kris

Check the rubber fuel lines, they have probably perished.

have replaced them with new ones but still massive ammounts of air getting into the system? car works perfectly at low speed but its just as soon as you put the foot down the air comes straight through and cant figure out where from..

Faulty fuel pump or fuel separator (unlikely but worth a go?)

yeah that ones been done too, even tried taking away the seperator and using a t piece in its place and had no effect on the running at all its just basically trial and error i guess and also a total nightmare

That's all there is to the fuel system then! Its not complicated on a clipper.

Fuel tank - fuel lines - small inline filter - carburettor.

yeah it isnt the most complicated setup in the world, i know its a long shot but if there was a slight hole anywhere in the sender unit? would this have an effect on the air seal causing the air to get in?

weve replaced the in line filter about 3 times so far cause of the rubbish in the tank but since it was cleared out its all been fine and clean

Possible but unlikely. I think you need a 2nd pair of eyes to look over the car.
