choke

Hi,

i might of asked the question in the wrong section, but what i want to know please is, does anyone know how and to get choke conversion kit for a golf mk1 cabrio, and how eay or difficult is it to install.

Assume you have an auto-choke that you wan't to covert to manual? Been talk of these kits recently and it appears they are getting harder and harder to find. Your best bet is to ring round motor factors such as Unipart, they may have some old stock. From what I recall GSF and ECP haven't done them for a while. Alternatively, it is possible to rig your own up by disconnecting the auto-choke, installing a choke cable and fabricating a bracket for it.

Hi thanks for the reply, but no its the other way round, i have a manual choke and i want to make it automatic

Don't do it - auto choke's are rubbish - think yourself lucky to have a manual . You don't have the same control over the choke, they are inconsistant and often go wrong and the auto choke unit itself isn't cheap to replace. Manual conversion kits were sold because of all those peole that got fed up with autochokes. What's wrong with your current choke set up?

Why would you want to do this ?? you then have no control over the choke relying instead on the engine heating up to switch it off.. my advice is stick with the manual version.

  thanks for the quick replies peops, the manual choke is fine apart from the cable needs changing i think, it sticks a bit, i wanted to change it because like most people and cars im used to automatic choke, and sometimes forget to push it back in, but if you guys think its not worth doing then i'll leave it, maybe just get a new cable, thanks again.
