So does your car have a carb already or are you removing all the injection system to fit a carb?

I bought the GTi shell for a rebuild but i recieved an engine from MK1 clipper due to a favour. (Helped him strip his clipper)
The guy i got it off is unsure about the engine size so hes looking for the logbook to tell me, although he said he thinks its a 1.8, whether its true though..
Pretty sure its a 1.6?
anyway, thats the situation. hope it helps more

1.8 head has the water oulet between cyinders 3 and 4 and the same as above…….

Since that made no difference ill be going back down tomorrow and finding out the engine code haha.

The engine code is stamped into smooth bit of metal just below No.3 spark plug, just need the first 2 letters.

You're looking for EW or GU for a 1.8 carb lump, EX or EZ for a 1.6 carb lump. If the bottom end was GTI originally the common codes are DX, EV or PB. the 1.8 carb and gti bottom ends are the same, just the head that differs between them
