Car sometime cuts out whilst driving!
Over the past few weeks i have been having a strange problem.
Whilst driving normaly my mk1 1600 gti sometimes cuts out and dies on me. I then give it som ethrottle and of she goes again.
I thought it may have been an issue with the fuel pump live wire tocuhing the chassis but i thought i resolved that.
Also when i blow the horn the car cuts out.
Strange indeed. Anyone have any similar problems?
Thanks.

Hey John.
Well i seem to have fixed the problem.
Try cheking your fuel pump relay, It has a 15 amp fuse on it.
When the cowboy mechanics fitted my fuel pump bak on they didnt attach it on properly so its kinda been at a wierd angle. I think the live wire has touched an blown the fuse which has been workin intermittently.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers, Inz.

If your intermittant cutting out does come back try the ignition barrel. I had this happen to me years ago on a previous mk1 and it turned out to be this.
Hopefully yours is resolved though.

Ez all.
Yes the fuse was blown. I re fitted the fuel pump housung myself so the live wire is safely tucked away amd replaced the blade fuse.
It seems to have cured the problem.
Good thing about having so many cowboy mechanics is that you learn how to do things your self.
