car cuts out while driving

took sender out from top of tank and the gause was clean but the terminals had pulled apart.  i put it back together as it should have been and tried running the car, it ran lovely, i also changed the fuel filter under the bonnet,( while there i refitted a wire back to the battery that had snapped ) i took it for a drive and did about 30 miles (normally do about 5 miles ) before it cut out.as i said in my last post it wouldn't start for 5 mins then it fired up and did 1 more mile and cut out , it did this 1s more then drove back home with no probs (7 miles)PLEASE HELP AS I'M GUTTED
